How to Prepare for Bed Bug Heat Treatment: A Complete Checklist
Proper preparation is critical for a successful heat treatment. This step-by-step guide covers everything you need to do before your technician arrives.
Bed bug heat treatment is one of the most effective ways to eliminate an infestation in a single visit — but only if the space is properly prepared. Improper preparation is one of the most common reasons heat treatments fail or require follow-up visits.
24–48 Hours Before Treatment
Remove all heat-sensitive items from the treatment area. This includes: aerosol cans, candles, wax items, certain medications, plants, pets, and any items that cannot withstand temperatures above 120°F. Your technician will provide a complete list.
Day of Treatment
- Leave all drawers and closets open so heat can penetrate - Remove all items from under beds (they need to be accessible) - Strip all bedding and place in plastic bags - Leave all furniture in place — do not push against walls - Ensure all windows and exterior doors are closed - Arrange for pets and all family members to be out of the home for 6–8 hours
What NOT to Do
Do not apply any sprays or DIY treatments before heat treatment — this can cause bed bugs to scatter and hide deeper. Do not remove furniture from the home — this can spread the infestation.
After Treatment
Your technician will clear the home and confirm it's safe to re-enter. Wash all bedding in hot water and dry on high heat. Inspect regularly for 2–3 weeks. If you see any live bugs, call us immediately — your treatment is guaranteed.
